My partner and I were looking for a nice spot for brunch and decided to stop by while downtown. I had seen some pretty favorable reviews for Ellen's. So great reviews coupled with the fact that they serve some good southern food we figured we couldn't go wrong. We arrived at about 1:30 and were greeted by a nice hostess and sat in a booth immediately. The place is cozy and everyone was friendly. For starters, we ordered Joe's Gritty Balls. Now when I read "deep fried cheese grits", I didn't know how that would work. But after tasting them I immediately knew. They were yummy! Crisp on the outside and almost like a hush puppy of sorts on the inside. They also had the right balance of cheese and spice from the jalapeño. Right as we each finished up one Gritty Ball, our entrees came out fast! I wasn't in the mood for breakfast so I opted for the Buttermilk Fried Chicken that comes with sides. I choose Mac & cheese and green beans. With all the savory flavors I needed a sweet balance, so I also ordered a la carte sweet potatoes. My partner ordered the Big Breakfast; two eggs any style, hash browns, bacon and sausage and two huge pancakes. Everything was great! Full of flavor, perfect temperature and huge portions; so much so we had plenty to take home. Ellen's was great and we will absolutely be back soon!

What is market price on catfish? We is in Texas!!! Catfish is plentiful. You want to celebrate a birthday ? $25 cake fee!!! Yep first 2 items that spoke very loudly to me. Cajun Pasta? You guessed it, market price. It's all a con to milk a guest for whatever they feel like they want to charge. I quite sure the prices for shrimp and catfish don't fluctuate that much. With that said I ordered a regular breakfast... pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs and to my surprise it was very good. The experience was much better than my last experience and for that I give them 4 stars.

We stopped by on a Friday at lunch time without reservations. 30 Minute wait on the Yelp waiting list and we were in.. The hostess team was super friendly and were upfront with the wait time. There were plenty of seats to wait inside. Our server was friendly but was definitely busy. We didn't see him much but waved him down when needed. The kitchen was awesome with getting our dishes to us quickly, and deliciously. lol with that.... Pimiento cheese plate - I love Pimiento Cheese and this is the first time I've ever seen it showcased an appetizer. This is for your cheese lovers. I started spreading it on my Eggs Benedict to get this Egg McMuffin vibe. lol Yum.. Traditional Eggs Benedict - Hands down, the best Eggs Benedict I've had this year. All the ingredients were fresh and the eggs were prepped perfectly. Great job... Pumpkin Spice Margarita - Yep, i saw this Seasonal Margarita on the drink and had to do it. The bar absolutely made it work. Creative and tasty The whole vibe of the team working here was friendly and upbeat. This was a great stop before we checked out the Sixth Floor JFK Museum at Dealey Plaza. After eating, you can literally walk to the museum in about 12 minutes. Cheers!

Visiting our son to celebrate my husbands bday. Wanted to find a brunch spot to go to when we were picked up from the airport on Friday. Ellen's has great reviews and the menu fit everyone in the family's needs. I wish I had made a reservation when I first started planning the trip. I didn't think it would be so packed on a Friday morning at 10:30. Took us less than 20 minutes from the airport. Found meter parking directly in front of the restaurant (we lucked out). It's in THE cutest location in Historic West End. About 10 people were waiting outside. We were originally told 40 minutes which ended up being an hour. I would say it was worth it. I was told the wait was longer for our party size because majority of seating is booths which seats 4. We had 5. The weather was beautiful and directly across the street, plenty of seating area with Swings!!!! What a special treat. I wanted to stroll a little bit but I couldn't leave the swing! We finally got our text and were seated at Roberts table. Robert was friendly and very helpful. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I checked out the restrooms which takes you past the kitchen which is open (very clean). Bathroom was clean but one of the stalls had no tp which makes me wonder how often they are cleaned. Women and men restrooms. Two regular stalls in women's and one larger. Portion sizes are great. I rarely eat meat and I was pleased with no meat options. I settled on the portabello mushroom sandwich with sweet potato fries. Did NOT disappoint. Largest mushroom burger fully loaded that I have ever seen. I couldn't finish all of it. My son was skeptical about the pancake pot pie due to the maple gravy because he doesn't like gravy but it didn't stand out with all of the flavors going on. Really good. The catfish was also good. Nice and crunchy. 5 meals and an appetizer was $100. Restaurant ended up being five minutes from our hotel at the Hampton Inn. Bonus. Glad we stopped here. You should too.

A delicious brunch spot with southern comfort! Much thanks to Willis C. for the recommendation and company! There was plenty of seating when we arrived at 11:30am on a Wednesday, but the place got packed by the time we left! Be sure to plan your time here accordingly. We enjoyed a carafe of Ellen's mimosa, which included sparkling brut, a splash of Grand Marnier and choice of juice(s). We opted for OJ and grapefruit. I had to try one of their eggs Benedict. I was torn between the fried chicken or grits benny. When the fried chicken was recommended, I was thrown with another curve ball decision between the chicken and steak! Since the steak was favored, I obliged. The steak was flavorful and it wasn't too heavy. It was definitely a unique combination with poached eggs that I would probably never see back home! The side salad was fresh and balanced my dish nicely. The biscuits and gravy were perfection. Willis' go-to, the Big Ol' Breakfast, came with eggs, sausages, hash browns and choice of biscuits, pancake or French toast. I'm glad he went with the French toast because I got try it and it was just the right soft and sweet bites I needed to end my satisfying meal! The hosts and server were very nice and attentive. Not sure about parking since I came in foot, but it is located close to public transit, museums and shops to check out in the area!

So stopped in for brunch after visiting the Museum of Illusion's and glad we did. Started out with a rack of balls, favorite was the cheesy balls but the blueberry cornbread balls were pretty good too. For breakfast I had the 2 egg breakfast with toast and bacon and the hubs had the meatloaf open face sandwich. My eggs weren't cooked very well but were eatable, toast is pretty much Texas toast which isn't great for putting an egg on. I asked for the bacon to be crispy and it was limp and greasy so just sat that to the side. Hash browns were good though. Hubs had the open face meatloaf sandwich and said it was really good. We also shared a carafe of pineapple mimosas. Would try this place again if in the area but think there are better options for brunch in downtown Dallas.
